What I'd really love is an app which uses your smart phone's microphone to sync with a movie's audio track to provide description. I know there was something like that out there once, but it had all of four or five movies.

I usually just try to find the script on the web so I can follow what's going on.

You can also use the System Access Mobile Network, (a 30-day free trial is available from Serotek's website) to listen to other Described Movies and TV shows, and you can watch them on your iphone via Sero, (a free Iphone app.)

But are they the same speed as the actual movies? I really enjoy watching movies visually with Audio Description, but find much of the stuff Frm BlindMiceMart is just a tiny bit faster than the actual movie. No idea why they do that; surprised it's not slower in fact to give more time for description) but there you have it.

It's good to see that someone brought this up. I've been trying to find a place where I can get DVS movies from. I've heard of Blind Mice Mall but never used it. I'd like to watch one of my favorite TV shows in DVS form but I'm not sure how to get to Blind Mice Mall or if Blind Mice Mall would even have what I'm looking for. The TV show I'm looking for is called Bones. There is also another TV show called True Blood that I'd like to get my hands on as well if possible.

Blind mice has both Bones and True Blood. In order to download from blind mice though, you'll need sendspace.

create an account on blind mice mega mall. No, you do not have to post your credit card and contact information. log in, click on the blind mice movie vault link, and you will be presented with a list of what's been recently added. You can also search for movies by title and alphabetical listing.
Clicking on the movie title will take you to Sendspace, from where you can download the file. Just click on "Download" on the sendspace page and the file should come through without a problem. It takes a while with some of the bigger ones if you don't have a sendspace account, but it is not necessary to actually have a sendspace account to get the files.
Not having an account with sendspace limits how much you can get in one day, as I understand it, so it might actually be beneficial to have the account and the sendspace wizard to avoid being capped at downloading up to 1 GB of material daily. I don't know how much it costs to have a sendspace account, but all that info should be on their website.

Thanks. Sounds like more hastle than it's worth, personally.

Post 10 by VioletBlue (Help me, I'm stuck to my chair!) on Sunday, 16-Jul-2017 5:29:09

No hastle, really. set it up once and it's done. If you go by wordiness of descriptions, most things sound more complicated than they are.

I love the Mice Vault! It's mainly how I discover new shows, because I never watch TV, aside from the occasional Hulu thing. I like that there are so many British programs there too.

I've used the Blind Mice vault without a Sendspace account. It's quick and it's relatively hassle-free. As stated above, the only issue comes if you want to download massive amounts of material all at once. But if you're that worried, just remember that it is described, and you are getting it for free, so just ration yourself a little, that's all.

Does System Access have a larger selection than what can be gotten from the Mice?

I think the faster speed of the movie has to do with the region. A lot of the dvs stuff seems to be made in the UK and they use a faster video format there. Still, even when they don't, the film is usually still missing some scenes.

Post 14 by Remy (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Monday, 24-Jul-2017 12:09:29

Really? That's one thing I've never experienced. That would be incredibly frustrating. I hated abridged books; abridged movies are no better.

Yeah, took me ages to find an uncut version of The Shining.

i love blind mice mart movie vault and all that the others have mentioned about it is true, you only have to pay is if you want to download more than 1 at a time and not have a limited amount of gbits but you still can get quite a lot of different things like i have so i have a variety of different things to listen to, smiles.
The speed thing you mentioned i reckon is so the describer can keep up with the speed of the movie or else i don't think it would work to well.
There is blindy tv but you don't have to download any thing you can just watch the programs you like and they are described, you may wanna check that out even though i know that is not what you are after but i thought to mention it any way.

Ha! I was specifically about to cite The Shining as one that is abridged, in the Mice version. Very annoying! I haven't noticed with other shows, but my sis and I saw the Shining sooo many times as kids, that I caught that right away.

It's worth it to me to pay for Sendspace. Otherwise, the dl will take ages, and often doesn't even finish, successfully.

Oh, and what's the story with so many incomplete series, listed there? Are the programs just not narrated all the way through (Nurse Jackie, for instance? Only 2 seasons are up on Blind Mice, but there are 7 in total.) Or is the person responsible for uploading just not sharing the rest? Who is there to contact to ask? I have a few series programs I'd love to finish watching! Why isn't there a message forum for the Mice, so people can discuss and possibly share more content, and offer feedback?

On a positive note, Mad Men seasons 1-4 are now available! Yippee! I've been wishing for that, for years! I am about to delve in, and hope they've done a good job with the narration. I love Mad Men--don't even care that I've already seen it. (7 seasons of that, as well...)

Post 18 by maddog (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Saturday, 29-Jul-2017 0:42:56

There might be fewer seasons possibly because others weren't audio-described. I was under the impression that they pretty much want only audio described content and sometimes we're just out of luck if something ends up not being described in its entirety.

I think serotek get their stuff from blind mice, but that's just my little theory.

I say this because when they add stuff, they're practically identicle to each other.

The only difference is TV shows on Sero don't have a summary anymore.

They use to back when Jamie Pauls was part of the content team, now, it's a huge mess.

It really needs a major clean up.

Oh and these playces seem to get shows by the season, so you can't get your weekly dose of Game of Thrones.

You'll have to wait for the season to finish.

In a way that's good, that way you can binge watch.

There are some episodes on Sero not described as well, but that comes back to what I said above.

An episode of quantico was not described, so I reported it.

This was on Sero, and the response was they get what they can get.

Not every episode is described at the time, but they'll try to get it in future.

This is for Sero, no idea how you'd report this to blind mice.

The TV movie of The Shining from '97 was better anyway. Much better.

Post 21 by Remy (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Monday, 31-Jul-2017 19:32:07

So, so true. A little less creepy perhaps, but an overall better experience.

Post 22 by VioletBlue (Help me, I'm stuck to my chair!) on Monday, 07-Aug-2017 16:39:00

Re Shining, thanks, I'll look for that. I didn't know there was a TV movie of it.

Post 23 by Imprecator (The Zone's Spelling Nazi) on Wednesday, 09-Aug-2017 17:14:57

It's six hours long, so you may want to get it in three separate parts.

Ok, thank you! *smile* And sorry I missed seeing your qn.
